To the Teen Who Feels Like They’re Falling Behind
I’m writing this because I know that "stuck" feeling. It’s that strange, quiet frustration where your life feels like it’s on repeat, and everyone else seems to be moving forward while you’re just... hovering. It’s not necessarily a crisis; it’s more like a fog that makes everything feel pointless.
If you feel like you’re stagnant right now, I want to offer you a different perspective for 2025:
- Plateaus are Part of Progress: In nature, nothing blooms all year long. There are long stretches of time where a tree looks like it’s doing nothing, but underground, the roots are deepening so they can support the next big growth spurt. You aren't "behind"; you are in a root-building season.
- The "Social Media Illusion": You are likely comparing your "behind-the-scenes" footage to everyone else’s "highlight reel." In 2025, the pressure to always be "leveling up" is at an all-time high. But constant growth isn't sustainable, it’s actually a recipe for burnout.
- The Power of the 1% Shift: When you feel stagnant, the thought of a "big change" feels impossible. So, don't try to change your whole life. Just change one tiny thing. Walk a different way to school, listen to a genre of music you usually ignore, or learn one new skill for ten minutes. These tiny shifts break the "loop" your brain is stuck in.
- You Are a Work in Progress: You are currently in the middle of a chapter, not at the end of the book. Stagnancy is often just a sign that you’ve outgrown your current routine and your soul is asking for something new, not that you’ve failed.
My challenge for you today: Pick one thing that makes you feel even 1% more curious. Curiosity is the natural enemy of stagnancy. You don't need a map for the next five years; you just need to take one step that feels slightly different than yesterday.
You are not stuck; you are just catching your breath for what’s next. I believe in the version of you that is currently growing under the surface.
I’m rooting for you,
Love health
