A Letter to the Teen Who Feels Like They’re Falling Behind 🥰
If you’ve ever looked around and felt like everyone is moving faster than you, this is for you. If you’ve ever scrolled through social media and thought, how is everyone doing so much while I feel stuck, this is for you. If you’ve ever sat with a knot in your stomach because no matter how hard you try, it still feels like it’s not enough, this is for you.
You are not falling behind.
I know it feels like you are. When people your age are starting businesses, getting internships, hitting milestones, and talking about their five-year plans like they have it all figured out. I know what it’s like to feel like you missed some invisible deadline. But you didn’t. You are on your own timeline, and that timeline is still valid even if no one else is walking it the way you are.
Not everyone blooms at the same time. Some people peak in high school. Some people figure it out in college. Some people need longer to grow roots before anything starts to show above the surface. And that doesn’t make them lost. It makes them layered. It makes them real.
Growth isn’t always visible. Sometimes it looks like staying in on a Friday night because you’re exhausted and choosing rest. Sometimes it looks like crying in your room and waking up the next morning anyway. Sometimes it looks like studying for a test even when your brain is tired and you feel like giving up. These small, unseen moments of effort are still progress. They still count.
The pressure to be constantly achieving is heavy. But you are allowed to be a work in progress. You are allowed to change your mind, to take your time, to not have everything figured out. You are allowed to move slower. You are allowed to learn through trial and error.
And just because your journey doesn’t look like someone else’s does not mean you’re behind. It just means your path is different. That doesn’t make it less worthy. It makes it yours.
One day, the pieces will come together. And you’ll be glad you kept going. You’ll look back and realize that the things you were ashamed of, the things you thought were delays or failures, were actually the foundations. They were shaping your strength. Building your empathy. Teaching you how to be resilient.
So if today feels like a mess, keep going anyway. If you’re doubting yourself, take a deep breath and keep showing up anyway. The truth is, you are doing better than you think. And just because it’s not loud or obvious, doesn’t mean it’s not happening.
You are growing. You are not behind. You are right on time.
